Mother 2 / Earthbound (Ape Inc., 1994, SNES) playthrough Part 1

This week we are playing the long awaited sequel to Mother, Mother 2 on the SNES, also known as Earthbound in the West. Disclaimer: The version I'm playing is the MaternalBound Redux. My thoughts: It's fun. Everything I liked about the first game is back and dialled up to eleven. Dozens of new and unique wacky characters and enemies, beautiful graphics, and memorable music. The gameplay has a nice little twist with HP as a counter, rather than a constant value. So even with after receiving a lethal attack from the enemy, you can still save your party member by acting fast. Though, the inventory is limited, like it was in the last game. Which does become quite laborious, to upkeep, especially when you are a hoarder like me, trying to avoid using consumables as much as possible. But at least you can store them with your sister… though you can only move three items at a time through the delivery service. Which in and of itself is quite a wacky feature. All in all, so far, much like the previous game, this one feels funnily enough like an indie game, more so than a "AAA" game. It has all of those little funny wacky things that we modernly expect from indie games. Not to mention the extensive cameo from Blues Brothers, which is one of my personal favourite movies. I did not expect them to get as much screen time and presence as they do.
