With the signing of the commencement agreement between the National Infrastructure Agency (ANI), the oversight entity AFA, and the concessionaire Ruta Bogotá Norte, the ambitious project enters a key phase that includes approximately 17.9 kilometers of work and an estimated completion time of 66 months. The initiative includes widening the Autopista Norte (North Highway) between 191st and 245th Streets, where the corridor will expand from three lanes in each direction to five or six lanes per carriageway. It will also incorporate an exclusive lane for TransMilenio (the city's bus rapid transit system), new pedestrian crossings, bike paths, and modernized sidewalks. The goal is to improve traffic capacity on one of the city's most congested access routes, which currently handles approximately 400,000 trips daily. With an investment of nearly 1.8 trillion pesos, the project also includes the construction of grade-separated interchanges, improvements to drainage systems, and new regional connections that will benefit municipalities such as Chía, Cajicá, Zipaquirá, Sopó, and Tocancipá. Furthermore, the project will be carried out under strict environmental guidelines defined by the National Environmental Licensing Authority, especially in areas near the Torca and Guaymaral wetlands.
