Hello everyone. For years, TransMilenio was seen solely as a transportation system: lanes, stations, buses, and congestion. But what's happening today in Ciudadela Metrópolis, on Avenida 68, marks a turning point: TransMilenio no longer just moves people. Now it's also reshaping the city. The urban renewal planned for Metrópolis doesn't stem from an empty lot or a typical speculative project. It originates from an inhabited complex, built in the 1980s, which for decades represented the ideal of Bogotá's middle class in the western part of the city. A complex that now carries 40 years of history… and the physical weight of time. Metropolis is located at a strategic point: 68th Avenue, between 68th and 80th Streets. Right where one of Bogotá's most important transportation projects is underway: the new TransMilenio trunk line along 68th Avenue. And it is precisely this infrastructure that activates an urban model that Bogotá had previously only timidly implemented: development oriented towards public transportation. Under this scheme, TransMilenio ceases to be just a bus operator and assumes a new role: urban development manager. That is, it enters the real estate business, in partnership with private entities, to develop the land around stations and strategic corridors.
