XTC recorded three songs for the BBC on February 22nd, 1987. This session was produced by Martin Colley and Jonathon Russle, with engineer Fred Kay. Andy Partridge felt nervous initially, as XTC hadn't recorded tracks for the BBC since 1984, but warmed up to it during recording "Another Satellite". These were later broadcast on the Sunday Live Show at a later point in February 1987. In mid-1987, "Dear God" was released as a 12-inch single with "Another Satellite" as a B-side.
