XTC Live Hammersmith Palais. BBC in Concert broadcast 22 Dec 1980 featuring 4 unreleased songs
The magnificent XTC with full guns blazing were only to last just over a year as a live entity after this broadcast and although they also made great music as a studio band I like to remember those years as an obsessive teenage fan buying everything that they put out and counting the days till they passed through my home town or released another record, interview or book like Eleven Different Animals. This cassette recording has worn really well and sounds every bit as good as the Transistor Blast and later CD versions. The difference here is that for some reason those versions don’t include the songs Outside World, Helicopter, Real By Reel and Statue Of Liberty. I’ve no idea why they were removed along with other bits of chat like Andy’s introduction to Living Through Another Cuba but it’s all been put back here to the way it was on the night of 22 Dec 1980. What a Christmas present for any fan! I also put back Towers Of London and Battery Brides that were not included in the broadcast for some reason (they did appear on Transistor Blast and the BBC Live CD) so you’ve got the whole gig here as verified by subsequently published set lists. I do hope someone else hasn’t done this already. I know how obsessive the fan base is but I’m 90% sure the four songs mentioned above don’t appear anywhere else on YT and so justify this upload. Enjoy. Sound Balance: Paul Nixon Production: Pete Dauncey. Jeff Griffin also shout out to Steve Warren who is probably doing the sound for the house and adding all the great dub effects...
