On the 204th day of traveling across China in my car, I left Xinjiang and arrived in Lanzhou, Gansu. I enjoyed the beautiful sunset over the Kushui Danxia landform and tasted Dongxiang hand-pulled lamb for the first time in my life. These past two nights, I've been camping in a parking lot by the Zhuanglang River in Yongdeng County. Even when the outside temperature dropped to minus ten degrees Celsius, I slept quite well here. The restroom next door had hot water, which was very convenient for washing up in the cold winter. After packing my things, I drove the car to the charging station. While charging, I had breakfast. I had almost finished the 10 naan breads I bought in Hami, Xinjiang; only 2 were left. After fully charging, I started driving towards Lanzhou city, a journey of about 100 kilometers. After driving about 40 kilometers, I arrived at Kushui Town. There were many friendly women selling fruit in the parking lot. Apples were only 2 yuan per jin (500g), so I bought 3 jin. Afterward, I went to the vicinity of Kushui Danxia. The colors of Kushui Danxia at sunset were incredibly rich. The already magnificent, layered hills, bathed in the slanting sunlight, seemed to be infused with a vibrant life. Crimson like burning flames, golden like molten gold in flowing sand—those interwoven ribbons of color transformed into the pulse of the earth, surging and flowing across the vast Loess Plateau. Light and shadow, with the gentlest strokes, outlined the sharp lines of the mountain ridges and the soft curves of the valleys, creating a profound sense of three-dimensionality. After admiring the Danxia landform of Kushui, night was about to fall. I continued driving 60 kilometers to Lanzhou city. I arrived in Lanzhou after 7 pm. I drove to Baishu Lane Food Street in Lanzhou. This is a famous gathering place for Dongxiang hand-pulled lamb in Lanzhou. The entire lane is almost entirely lined with various kinds of hand-pulled lamb restaurants. Some shops offer dine-in service with many tables and chairs. Other shops mainly focus on takeout and online sales; the shops are small, with several small tables set up at the entrance. You can taste the hand-pulled lamb right there. I asked about the prices at the lamb restaurants. Lamb was 31 yuan per jin (500g). Old lamb was 28 yuan per jin. Beef steak was 24 yuan per jin. The meat was sold in pieces, generally 2-3 jin or 3-4 jin per piece. If you want to cook for yourself, buying fresh beef and lamb is the most cost-effective option. Also, I asked the owner of a lamb restaurant where the best hand-pulled lamb restaurant in the area was. She said they're all pretty similar, but if you really want the best, try "Qi's Hand-Pulled Lamb" and "Dawu Hand-Pulled Lamb" in the next alley. The lamb at those two restaurants is drier and tastes better, but it's also more expensive. I bought a single-person hand-pulled lamb meal online for 28.89 yuan, which included half a jin (250g) of lamb, a bowl of noodles, a side dish, and a cup of Sanpaotai tea. The portion was very generous; it was quite filling for one person. After eating the hand-pulled lamb, I checked into a hotel. That night, around 3 a.m., it started snowing in Lanzhou.
