DIY Fly Fishing California Trout Route #1: Hwys 108, 120, and 395 (Part 1)

Looking for a road trip with incredible scenery and lots of easy opportunities to fish along the way? Looking for some new spots to hit? Overwhelmed and/or intimidated by the thought of just going out and trying some spots (or where to even do that) and looking for some direction? Well look no further! This is the first in what I hope will be yet another series in which I try to make fly fishing California's myriad waterways and exploring the state fun, easy, and accessible to everyone--newbies and seasoned anglers alike. This one takes you from a waterfall in the western Sierras over the top of the mountains via Yosemite National Park (hwy 12), then up along the eastern Sierras via hwy 395, to back over them along hwy 108, and then back to the start. It takes about 6 hours to drive in good weather with open roads and is broken up into four legs. I show you what you can expect along the route as well as some stops for fishing and fun, and suggest ways to find more (this is not comprehensive). I hope it helps and I hope you enjoy it. As always, please let me know if you have any questions and thanks so much for watching. Update: A couple sharp eyed folks notice that I called a fish a Sacramento Sucker when it was actually a whitefish. I went back and looked again and they were right and I was wrong. I do actually know the difference and I'm not sure why I got it my empty head that this was a sucker, but it wasn't. I really try to get everything right all the time, but I do make mistakes and have no issue with people correcting me (politely) when it happens as it did here. So thanks for that and sorry about the error. Love, A Bush in the Woods
