Economics Session with the Veblen Institute, conceived by Mathilde Dupré, Co-Director of the Veblen Institute Caught between a United States that is dramatically abandoning the energy transition and a China that is establishing itself as a leader in decarbonized technologies, the EU is hesitating. Presented alternately as an engine of competitiveness and independence, or as a hindrance in the face of geopolitical rivalries, environmental policy has become the heart of a strategic dilemma for the 27 member states. While Europe is struggling to achieve its economic and industrial objectives while simultaneously weakening its environmental and social commitments, this conference will address a crucial question: is environmental policy a handicap in international power dynamics or, on the contrary, the decisive lever of European power, resilience, and sovereignty?
