TAM Evolution (1947 - 2026) Tovarna Avtomobilov Maribor, meaning was founded in 1947 in Maribor, Slovenia, then part of Yugoslavia. The factory was built on the site of a former World War II aircraft plant and quickly became the country's leading manufacturer of trucks and buses. Its first vehicle, the TAM Pionir, was produced under license from the Czechoslovak company Praga. In 1958, TAM began manufacturing more advanced trucks under license from the German company Magirus-Deutz, helping establish a reputation for durable commercial vehicles. The company later developed its own successful models, including the TAM 2000 series. By the 1980s, TAM had produced over 200,000 vehicles, employed thousands of workers, and exported trucks and buses to Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and beyond. It became one of the symbols of Yugoslavia's industrial strength. Following the breakup of Yugoslavia, TAM lost many of its traditional markets and entered financial crisis. The company went bankrupt in 1996. Today, the TAM name survives through a successor company in Maribor, which focuses mainly on producing buses, including electric and airport buses, preserving the legacy of one of the Balkans' most iconic vehicle manufacturers. ——————————————————— ► Thanks for watching !
