Designed as a moated castle, it served as both a defensive and administrative center. In the 17th and 18th centuries, the structures were adapted: Towers were given new chamfers, facades were renovated, and the inner courtyard underwent a Baroque-influenced redesign. Today, Zeil stands as a testament to regional architecture, where history, legend, and the present are intertwined. The grounds are currently privately owned but open to the public.
