đ° Schloss Kronburg: 800 Jahre Geschichte, Kriege und Geheimnisse! + #Outtakes #4k
Hello and welcome to "AufWanderschaft" (Hiking), High above the Iller Valley in the Lower Allgäu region rises Kronburg Castle â one of the best-preserved Renaissance castles in Bavaria. Its history stretches back more than 800 years. The origins of the complex date back to the period after 1200. At that time, a medieval castle was built on the mountain spur by a family of ministeriales (unfree knights) of the Hohenstaufen dynasty. In 1227, Kronburg was first mentioned in a document. Rudolf von Cronburg appears in a charter of King Henry VII, marking the first written record of the castle. After the original lords of the castle died out, Kronburg came into the possession of the Habsburgs around 1273. In 1335, the Lords of Ratzenried took over the castle. It was damaged during a feud in 1370 but was subsequently rebuilt. In 1515, the lordship was granted the right of high justice â the right to exercise high jurisdiction. This significantly increased Kronburg's importance and influence in the region. The Thirty Years' War also left its mark on the castle. In 1635, Swedish troops attempted to capture the fortress. However, the well-fortified complex withstood the attack. At the end of the 17th century, a comprehensive renovation of the castle began. Between 1693 and 1694, numerous buildings were repaired and embellished. During the War of the Spanish Succession, the castle was further fortified in 1703. Just one year later, French troops partially demolished the four distinctive round towers. With the reorganization of Europe in 1806, Kronburg lost its status as an independent lordship and became part of the Kingdom of Bavaria. In 1841, the male line of the Barons von Westernach became extinct. Through marriage, the castle passed to the von Vequel-Westernach family in 1852, who remain associated with the estate to this day. After many decades as a private family residence, Kronburg Castle opened its doors to visitors in 1986. Since then, it has hosted guided tours, concerts, exhibitions, and cultural events. Today, Kronburg Castle is considered one of the most beautiful historical sites in the Allgäu region. With its impressive architecture, long history, and magnificent location overlooking the Iller Valley, it attracts numerous visitors every year and brings the past vividly to life.
