These tactics included charging between NT$8,000 and NT$10,000 per person for parenting courses, with those who didn't attend facing public criticism. There were also numerous other donation schemes, including one family of four who donated at least NT$1 million. Because the pastor cultivated an image of simplicity and love for God, members didn't suspect anything until they discovered that the pastor and his family had received nearly NT$5 million in salaries last year, yet their accounts of church finances were unclear.
