Building a House - Floor Joists, Strandfloor Flooring and Expol Insulation | NZ Build

In this episode I cut and place the floor joists, work through running measurements for accurate joist spacing, fit the boundary joist and blocking, then lay and fix the Strandfloor sheet flooring before finishing with Expol underfloor insulation. This completes the timber subfloor stage of the build. 00:00 Floor Joists Begin 00:21 Joist Treatment & Sizing 00:36 Cutting the Joists 01:55 Marking Joist Spacing 03:36 Placing the Joists 05:49 Boundary Joist 06:42 Joist Joins & Blocking 08:00 Flooring Sheets Arrive 09:43 Laying the Sheets 11:47 Tongue & Groove 12:15 Fixing & Glue 13:14 Underfloor Insulation 15:08 Recap & Next Episode This series follows the construction of a 76m² timber-framed house, stage by stage, from setout through to weatherboard cladding. It's aimed at anyone interested in the practical detail of residential timber framing in New Zealand — the reasoning behind each step, not just the finished result. I'm Chris, a New Zealand builder with over 20 years in the trade. This 2020 build is a documented test run ahead of my next project — a split-level concrete and timber house on a sloping site — where what I've learned making this series carries straight across.
