Pukllay 2019 Andahuaylas: NOS AGARRARON A HUARACASOS | TRAVELERAS
ALLINLLACHU TRAVELERS! The moment we'd been waiting for has arrived, travelers. Returning to the land of our great writer José María Arguedas and the birthplace of the Chankas has been one of the most wonderful trips we've taken this year. We traveled with such joy to celebrate #Pukllay2019, and we did experience the true carnival of "All the Bloods" at the "XVII National Meeting of the Original Carnival of Peru," which brings together delegations of dancers from all over Peru and invited countries. Sumaqtam tusuykuriku, takiykaramuniku, chakichanchikpas pisipanankama! (We danced and sang beautifully, until our little feet got tired!). Pukllay comes from the Quechua word meaning GAME. It is the most authentic carnival in the country and represents the celebration of gratitude to nature in general, as well as to the Apus or divine guardians, and to Pachamama or Mother Earth, who provides food and life. Set in the city of Andahuaylas, the birthplace of the Chankas, the land of José María Arguedas, and lasting four days, it is one of the most impressive carnival celebrations, bringing together thousands of dancers from all over Peru in various categories. This festival began in 2003 and is named after Don Isacc Vivanco Tarco, the "Don of the Apurimeño Carnival." This native of Andahuaylas, musician, poet, social researcher, and promoter and rescuer of ancient huaynos and community members of Andahuaylas, is said to have been the creator and visionary of one of the most important festivals in the country, PUKLLAY. With the sole purpose of promoting Chanka cultural identity through the participation of rural-urban dance and song groups, later incorporating groups from the rest of the country and even abroad. ..................................
