Japanese Week in London | Day 2: Japanese Class, Marilyn Monroe & Zurbaran

Day two of my Japanese week in London 🇯🇵 The day began with an early run around Russell Square and Coram’s Fields before I finally managed to visit Fortitude Bakehouse without the usual queue and treated myself to one of their famous raspberry morning buns. After a slightly chaotic enrolment session and getting completely lost in the maze that is King’s College, I somehow stumbled across the beautiful College Chapel hidden away inside the building before making it to class. Back with my wonderful teacher Honami and in a much smaller group this year, I couldn’t believe how different the experience felt compared with last summer. Instead of feeling overwhelmed, I left feeling confident, excited and incredibly proud of how much Japanese I’ve learned over the last year. The afternoon was spent wandering through London with stops at WA Cafe for coffee and a chestnut bun, the Marilyn Monroe exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery, and the Zurbarán exhibition at the National Gallery. Finally, I headed back to Bloomsbury via Cecil Court, London’s famous “Booksellers’ Row”, lined with antiquarian bookshops and hidden treasures. Tomorrow: Frida Kahlo, Tracey Emin and a day at Tate Modern.
