A large fire broke out on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 23, on Monte degli Elci. A significant amount of equipment was deployed for firefighting operations in the municipality of Nerola, in the province of Rome, where Canadairs and helicopters continued to perform water drops throughout the day. There was particular concern for an animal sanctuary along the Via Salaria, just steps from the fire front. "Here there are animals rescued from slaughterhouses and other dangerous situations," explained Massimo Manni, president and founder of the "Capra Libera Tutti" sanctuary, "but now we are in extreme difficulty."
