Co-hosts Mexico had the chance to advance to the knockout stage with a perfect record in their final group match! Against a disappointing Czech Republic, "El Tri" celebrated a commanding 3-0 victory at the Azteca Stadium, securing first place in Group A. For a long time, it was a patient affair for the Mexican team. After a sluggish first half without any major highlights, the floodgates finally opened in the second half: Mateo Chávez (55th minute) and Julián Quinones (61st minute) scored in quick succession to put Mexico on the path to victory. Alvaro Fidalgo added the final touch in stoppage time (90+4). However, the emotional highlight of the evening came with a substitution: In the 78th minute, goalkeeping legend Guillermo Ochoa entered the pitch to deafening cheers. At 40 years old, "Memo" is playing in his sixth World Cup – a goosebump moment for an entire nation. While Mexico is brimming with confidence as group winners, the World Cup is over for the Czech Republic.
