This video takes you back to Taichung in the 1970s and 1980s — a city in the midst of transformation. The old downtown remained vibrant while new roads were gradually widened. Between tradition and modernity, Taichung developed a unique rhythm that defined central Taiwan. Back then, the areas around Zhongzheng Road, Yuanzi Street, and Zhonghua West Street in the Central District were always bustling with people. Rows of storefront signs and busy merchants made these streets popular places for shopping, gathering, and everyday life. Near Green River West Street and Chenggong Road, motorcycles, bicycles, and pedestrians moved through the city, creating authentic scenes of daily urban life. At the intersection of Section 1, Taiwan Boulevard and Wuquan Road, traffic was becoming increasingly busy, and the city's skyline was beginning to change. The Lake Heart Pavilion (Huxin Pavilion) stood quietly, accompanying generations of Taichung residents through their youth. The markets and small shops of old Taichung retained the warmth of everyday life— the sounds of street vendors and conversations beneath the arcades were the soundtrack of that era. Taichung at night offered a different atmosphere. Places such as the Play Boy Bar and CCK Lounge reflected the city's growing nightlife and popular culture. From souvenir shops to school gates, from Daya Junior High School to the single-story classrooms of Taichung Teachers College, every corner of the city held stories of youth, growth, and memories. Through AI restoration, colorization, and animation technology, these precious old photographs have come to life once again— the flow of traffic, the light and shadows beneath the arcades, the bustle of the markets, and the breeze by the lake seem to move before our eyes once more. This is not just a portrait of Taichung's cityscape, but a collective memory shared by central Taiwan.
