Der Geher in Hamburg: Altona old town

I am Der Geher and I walk through the district Altona-Altstadt. Starting from the Republic Square next to the train station, I first pass the Altona Town Hall. Many statues and the church St. Petri. At Struenseestraße there are a few old gravestones. After the main church St. Trinitatis follows a view of the Reeperbahn. Through the Walter-Möller Park the path goes north before it ends at the Friedenskirche. Today's Altona-Altstadt district encompasses the core area of the formerly independent Altona. In 1664, Frederick III of Denmark elevated the fishing settlement to a city and Altona quickly became Denmark's second largest city. In 1713, during the Great Northern War, Altona was burned down house by house. After rapid reconstruction and the first free port in northern Europe, Altona became Prussian in 1867 and then a district of Hamburg in 1937. Today, about 29,000 inhabitants live here.
