Many people believe that exercising at night can disrupt sleep; they think it's harder to fall asleep or that they get poorer quality sleep if they exercise at night. But is this really true? The truth is that exercising at night doesn't necessarily harm sleep. In reality, the relationship between exercise and sleep is more complex and individualized; it depends on each person and isn't the same for everyone. Let me explain the relationship between physical activity and sleep in more detail. First: Impact on sleep quality. Several studies show that regular exercise, regardless of the time of day, can improve sleep quality. Regular physical activity helps reduce stress, promotes relaxation, and contributes to deeper, more restful sleep. Second: Sleep metabolism. Exercise stimulates sleep metabolism; exercise increases the production of substances like adenosine, which promotes the feeling of sleep. This means that, for some people, exercising at night can even facilitate sleep. Third: Individual sensitivity. It's what I said about each person being different. It's important to know this: sensitivity to exercise at night can vary from person to person. Some people may feel energized after exercise and have difficulty falling asleep immediately, while others may feel relaxed and fall asleep more easily. So, based on everything I've told you, let me share my recommendations for exercising at night without compromising your sleep. First, get to know your body: Observe how your body reacts to exercise at night. If you find yourself feeling overly energized and having trouble sleeping, it may be best to exercise earlier in the day. Second: establish a suitable schedule. If you choose to exercise in the evening, try to finish your workouts at least two hours before bed. This will give your body enough time to calm down and relax before you lie down to sleep. And my third recommendation: try different types of exercise. Some exercises, like yoga and stretching, can have a more relaxing effect and help prepare your body for sleep. Experiment with different modalities and see what works best for you. Exercising in the evening doesn't necessarily harm your sleep. In fact, regular physical activity can improve your sleep quality. Remember to know your body, establish a suitable schedule, and experiment with different types of exercise. Everyone is unique, so find the approach that works best for you.
