Israeli incursions into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound are escalating amid threats to impose a new reality within it. The Islamic Fatwa Council reported that approximately 4,000 settlers stormed its courtyards, led by National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and several Knesset members. The Jerusalem Governorate considered these actions an attempt to seize parts of the eastern courtyards of the mosque, at a time when settlement policies are accelerating in the West Bank, amidst Israeli efforts to link settlement expansion to security concepts. Simultaneously, Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz announced that his government will work to establish more settlements as part of Israel's security, raising questions about the repercussions of the escalating incursions and settlement activity on the future of the Palestinian cause and the situation in the occupied territories.
