Sour Ale Revival - Cherry Sour Ale - Brew Dudes

Mike makes a Cherry Sour Ale using a 6+ year old sour ale from the "cellar". He experiments with saving the beer by adding some fresh fruit character to it. Mike wanted to emulate the way fruit is added to most kettle soured ale. Add a whopping amount of fruit puree to the beer and hope the sweetness balances out the sourness. This was a golden sour ale that I let sit in glass carboy for at least the last 6 years. He finally decided to play around with it rather than dump it out. He used two pounds of cherries that I thawed, smashed up and pureed to a pulp. He heated it to pasteurize and added some lactose to maybe help with mouthfeel and residual sweetness; and most kettle soured beers have a touch of lactose in them as well. We think this experiment came out pretty good. I wouldn't pound down 2-3 pints of it, but a 10 ounce pour on a hot summer night might be quite nice.
