Due to the presence of Buddha statues and countless roof tile fragments in the vicinity, the area was called "Buddha Valley." The temple's name was also derived from transliterating "Buddha Valley" into Chinese characters as Bulgoksa. The Iljumun Gate, adorned with a signboard reading "Bieumsan Bulgoksa," was originally the main gate of Jinnamnu, the former Changwon Guesthouse, before being relocated here. Passing through Seumnu, a two-story pavilion, leads to Birojeon Hall. Enshrining the Vairocana Buddha, it is an elegant building with a hip-and-gable roof measuring three bays wide and three bays deep. It houses the Stone Seated Vairocana Buddha, designated as Treasure No. 436, a Buddha statue from the Unified Silla period. It is highly regarded for its artistic and historical value. After finishing our visit to Bulgoksa Temple, we took a walk along the foothills of Mt. Bieum, which surrounds the temple. Mt. Bieum was originally called Neoreun San, meaning a wide and massive mountain; it came to be known as Bieumsan during the process of translating the name into Chinese characters. The walking trails are easily accessible and have developed like a spiderweb. The leader acted as our guide, moving forward wherever our feet took us. We wandered here and there along the foothills. Although it is a small hill, it was fun to explore every nook and cranny.
