Top10: Niedrige Schattenstauden für Naturgarten + Balkon! Von Lungenkraut bis Busch-Windröschen
Shade in the garden or on the balcony isn’t a flaw—it’s an invitation to a very special world of plants! In this video, I’ll introduce you to 10 European native shade-perennials that are perfectly adapted to life with little light. Whether for a natural woodland garden, a north-facing bed, or shaded planters on the balcony, these hardy beauties bring structure and life to every corner. My Personal Favorites: Common Wood Sorrel (Oxalis acetosella): I’d especially like to recommend this one. It is considered extremely shade-tolerant and is a true survivalist. Thanks to its compact size, it works wonderfully as a filler for the problematic "dry shade" spots. Personally, I also get a lot of joy from keeping it as a potted plant on a north-facing balcony! Lungwort (Pulmonaria officinalis): Another eye-catcher. While many plants become inconspicuous after blooming, this perennial scores points with its beautiful, characteristically patterned foliage. The best part? The decorative look lasts all season, providing bright accents amidst the deep green. Spring Vetchling (Lathyrus vernus): My third highlight. It impresses with an extraordinary play of colors: as the flowers fade, they shift into stunning nuances ranging from metallic blue to almost jade green—a rare sight that makes it stand out in any shaded bed. Stay Tuned: In addition to the list, I’ll show you step-by-step how I plant a special shade container using three native woodland perennials. It’s definitely worth sticking around until the end to see the finished arrangement!
