Talk given by Ms. Thelma Khelghati on May 2, 2026 Thelma Khelghati and her family dedicated 36 years as pioneers in Africa, serving in Togo, Kenya, Guinea, and Mali. Throughout her life, she has contributed to countless Bahá'í administrative bodies—both appointed and elected—across the U.S. and Africa, including the Continental Board of Counsellors for Africa and the National Spiritual Assemblies of Guinea and Mali. With a deep passion for both formal and informal education and community development, Thelma has directed several U.S. government-funded initiatives on early grade literacy and workforce training for out-of-school youth in rural communities. Beyond this, she is also a performance artist, using her craft to delve into themes of race and womanhood. Today, she lives in Chevy Chase, Maryland, surrounded by her daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter.
