The basics of training a Niwaki or garden bonsai. This Chamaecyparis pisifera 'Boulevard' is an ideal subject to discuss. It has been grown in the ground for 6 years and will tolerate this cloud pruning perfectly. This operation is carried out in February, outside of periods of severe frost. After this initial formative pruning, it will take a few years for the tree to reach its full maturity as a Niwaki. This video is the first in the trilogy.
