The basics of training a Niwaki, or garden bonsai. This Chamaecyparis pisifera 'Boulevard' is an ideal subject for learning this technique. It has been grown in the ground for six years and will perfectly tolerate cloud pruning. This operation is carried out in February, avoiding periods of hard frost. After this initial formative pruning, it will take a few years for the tree to reach its full Niwaki maturity. This video is the second in a trilogy.
