The U.S. Chargé d'Affaires in Venezuela, John Barrett, responded at a press conference to a question from NTN24 about Diosdado Cabello after a photograph was published showing the two together in what appeared to be a friendly conversation. In the image, Barrett is even seen amicably taking Cabello's arm, leading many to wonder if the U.S. government's position regarding the Venezuelan regime's second-in-command has changed. Barrett did not answer the question directly and instead spoke about the actions the United States has taken to address the emergency that erupted in Venezuela as a result of the earthquakes that devastated the country on June 24. “The State Department is 100% focused on this response to the devastating earthquakes in Venezuela and on moving forward with Donald Trump’s three-phase plan, which includes stabilization, economic recovery and socialization, and of course, the democratic transition,” she stated.
