LINKS: Jump-ring opener https://amzn.to/33K7teA We have come back along to the village of Limekilns, on the River Forth and Fife Coastal Path - the coast here is varied; the sand beach gives way to a muddy harbour, that stretches far out into the river bed. The views are expansive, reaching from Kincardine (in the west) to the Queensferry Crossing, just outside Edinburgh (to the east)! Join us finding everything from the bizarre, the fascinating and the treasured! Our finds range from what looks like a glass jaw - it can't be, can it? An extremely old bottle neck - is it an onion bottle? Enough spark plugs to seriously consider a spark-plug chess set! Yes, we're serious, but we still need a few pieces! :D Among the host of other great sea glass, pottery shards and buttons galore, we find one very special wee jar... A small jar, it looks much like an ink bottle, but it is not... The word ISINGLASS is embossed on the bottom of the bottle... After a search through the archives, its so satisfying to find old Victorian Adverts / advertising for this once essential item for the modern kitchen or brewer! Isinglass, or fish glue, was manufactured from the swim bladders of sturgeon and other fish. Isinglass holds an important role of the story of modern invention where many products were synthesized from animal products before becoming replaced by non-biological compounds. Isinglass served many functions - it was used as a glue, a fining agent in brewing, a preservative for eggs, prior to pasteurization, and prior to the invention of gelatin, it was a setting agent in confectionery, jellies, cakes and the like! Its a truly remarkable range of uses! These days it is still an important substance, used in brewing and in historically accurate restoration projects. To add to the adventure of a fun day out - we have a few really tricky games of 'Can You See it?' for you... and we found something that has given us the idea for a new game - 'Is it a waste pipe or a ancient treasure?' We think its a good laugh... Let us know how well you do! :D We hope you enjoyed today's video... Thank you so much!
