Basant ki Bahaar with Dr. Chinna Dua

The celebration of Basant Panchami at the Dargah of Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya goes back to the late 13th and early 14th centuries, where people of different backgrounds come together and celebrate the onset of Spring. This year we had the honour of having Dr. Padmavati Dua, fondly known as 'Chinna Dua' join us and talk about what Basant Panchami means to her. She also indulges us with her rendition of "Sakal Ban Phool Rahi Sarso' in her melodious voice! Chinna Ma'am is well known for love for Saris, but she has many aspects to her personality, for instance, although she is a doctor by profession, Chinna Ma'am is also a trained singer in Carnatic and Hindustani styles of Music, Music has been her first love. We first heard her voice in an instagram video that she posted a while back. Since then, we longed to hear her in person some day. When we approached Ma'am for this video, it was in a moment of bravado. We're a small channel, still amatuers and still learning. It was plausible that Chinna Ma'am wouldn't even see our message, or even if she did, she may be too busy to respond. But we were pleasantly surprised, taken aback, and humbled when ma'am responded and was willing to give us the opportunity to film her, but most importantly, to meet her and to get to know her. Ma'am had to record with us twice due to some technical errors on our part, but she was so kind and helpful through out. We ended up spending extra time with her, chatting about Basant, movies, music and life in general. In meeting Ma'am, we have made a new friend and a well wisher, we are ever so grateful.
