WALL CUTOUTS for a 6FT CAMPERVAN BED! | Fiat Ducato | UK Self-Build Campervan Conversion

In the last video we showed you how we built our extending campervan bed and that happened in parallel to us building these cutouts in the van wall. The Ducato (Boxer/Relay/Promaster) is a really wide van with deep recesses in the side walls. This means that by using some fun planning you can make use of this extra space to make the widthways bed a bit longer. In fact, we managed to get around 8cm at both the head and foot of the bed using this method! The finish was a difficult decision. We certainly aren't expert woodworkers and didn't want to pressure ourselves to have a spotless finish due to all the angles and joins. So we decided to carpet the 9mm plywood (as this would hide the joins and chips!) and then some vinyl flooring that was glued into the recess to provide some interest and to break up all the grey carpet! We then finished with LED strip light in the tops for some more subdued lighting at night. Overall we're really pleased with the end result and they look really smart, not to dominating and really set off the back of the van.
