UPPER CABINETS Part 1 | Fiat Ducato L2H2 | UK Self-Build Campervan Conversion

We started the first bit of handmade furniture in the van - our upper cabinets. This is part one as there is a lot to cover and this video is is already very long but we hope you find our approach helpful. We're really pleased with the result and it's nice to have so much more storage in the van. We are having two upper cabinets in the van - one over the kitchen and one over the bed where our feet are. The one in the kitchen has spotlights underneath. Both have light switches in the ends as they are the perfect height for switches. We built a front frame first, then attached 12mm poplar plywood to the bottom and sides. We attached it all together with some other battens, including one at the back at an angle that would hold the entire thing up against the wall and into the thick battens we have at the top of the wall. We then added a divider in the middle and made a start on the doors. They are made from 18mm poplar plywood and use concealed hinges to attach to the frame. The cupboards are super light due to the plywood choice and having multiple securing points makes them a strong fit into the van. In Part 2 we'll show you how we sanded, primed and finished the cabinets, installing shelves and handles and final fitting into the van.
