In this video, you'll understand some important CONCEPTS: • Prosthesis = artificial component that replaces missing natural elements • Removable partial denture (RPD) = replacement of some teeth, not all. It is removable because it can be removed from the oral cavity (this should be done mainly for cleaning the denture). And the COMPONENT ELEMENTS of RPDs: • Direct retainers Direct retainers are located close to the denture space. They can be extracoronal (CLAMPS) or intracoronal, functioning as a snap-on system. • Indirect Retainers These retainers are located further away from the prosthetic space and help provide support and prevent rotation of the denture. These retainers are located perpendicular to the fulcrum line (axis of rotation), and the most commonly used indirect retainer is abutment. • Larger Connector Responsible for connecting the other elements of the denture and also for the stability and support of the RPD. It's important to remember that the larger connector must be rigid to distribute the forces of chewing, not overloading either the supporting tooth or the mucosa. • Smaller Connector Responsible for connecting the other structures to the larger connector and also to the saddle. • Saddle Metal grid that holds the artificial teeth. • Artificial Teeth The aesthetic part of the denture itself. Artificial teeth can be made of acrylic resin or porcelain. However, recently, acrylic resin has become more popular due to its more favorable aesthetics. I REALLY hope this video helped you.
