An Egyptian Tale... And if we were to begin, my friend... where would we start the story? We were all raised on the idea that the High Dam was a monumental achievement and a complete triumph... something like the pyramids... That's what we learned in schools... and what we absorbed from the state media... No one ever told us the other half of the dam's story... the half that was swept under the rug... even though it's huge... and clearly tangled up under the rug... and we still stumble over it and get splashed every time we pass by it, even to this day... Because the country has continued to pay the price for the decision to build the dam... to this day... with the water of the Nile... and the land of the country... even with the health of its people... But more dangerous than this price itself... was something else important that no one noticed... which is that this dam taught the Egyptian regime a very dangerous lesson... taught it a "method" of decision-making that it's still living by.
