Trial flight/re fresher PA28 Piper warrior

Hello again, friends and followers, and welcome back to another video. I promised I would bring you the best content I can, both virtually and in real life, whether that's from my flight training, flight simulation, real-world simulators, or plane spotting. Well, here it is. My first proper in-flight training sortie video has finally been uploaded. On Thursday, 28th May 2026, after around five weeks away from flying following a more negative experience at another flight school, I started considering whether continuing towards my PPL (Private Pilot Licence) was the right option for me. After visiting Fife a couple of weeks earlier and having a meeting with the team there, I decided to book a trial flight — the flight where it all begins for many pilots. For me, however, this was more of a refresher flight. I wanted to rebuild my confidence, get back in the air, and return to the point where I should have been in my previous training. As some of you may know, I previously flew the Eurostar microlight. If memory serves me correctly, the aircraft weighs around 90kg empty. These aircraft are incredibly light and responsive — almost like flying a real-life model aircraft. You can physically move the flight controls by hand with ease. Most general aviation aircraft can be moved this way on the ground, but the Eurostar always stood out because of just how lightweight it felt. Following what I considered a very poor and negative lesson several weeks earlier, I made the decision to leave the NPPL route and pursue a full PPL instead. For those unfamiliar with the difference: The NPPL (National Private Pilot Licence) is generally considered a more restricted licence with fewer privileges and limitations on where and what you can fly. The training structure and requirements are slightly different. The PPL (Private Pilot Licence) is internationally recognised, follows a more structured training programme, and requires a greater number of examinations and a Class 2 medical. While both licences ultimately allow you to fly recreationally, the PPL offers considerably more flexibility and future opportunities. I may cover the differences in much greater detail in a future video. I was accompanied on this flight by a colleague from work, who deserves a huge amount of credit for the incredible filming. Without his help, this video simply would not have been possible. We've already agreed to work together again in the future, which means I should be able to bring you even more content from my flying journey and allow you to follow my progress as training continues. After our 54-minute flight, we returned to Fife Airport. We had been flying along the east coast of Fife before making our way back, and the highlight of the lesson was undoubtedly the approach and circuit for Runway 06. What made it particularly interesting was the very tight right-hand downwind circuit required to avoid overflying the town of Kinglassie. Earlier that morning I had been studying and printing circuit charts, and I remembered the noise abatement procedures which specifically advise pilots to avoid the town wherever possible. Of course, for someone experiencing a trial lesson for the very first time, this is not something they would be expected to know. However, having flown before and having previously visited Fife Airport, I recognised the warning and pointed it out to the instructor. If you notice me pointing and looking outside throughout the circuit, that is largely what I was referencing while simultaneously helping line us up with the runway centreline.
