Thanks to this, the traditions of the Dinara region—especially ojkavica singing and local dances—are vividly passed on and remain an integral part of Kijevo's cultural identity. Kijevo is a small town in Dalmatia, located in the interior of Croatia, in the Dinaric Alps. It is inhabited mainly by Croats, and the local culture is based on pastoral traditions and a strong attachment to rural customs, including ojkavica singing. The settlement has a layout typical of Dalmatian mountain villages – scattered houses, farmland, and numerous traces of traditional stone architecture. The region is sparsely populated, which helps to preserve its authentic ethnographic character. Dalmatian Zagora is an inland, less urbanized part of Dalmatia, stretching behind the coastal mountain range and separated from the coast. The region is characterized by a rugged, karst landscape: plateaus, fields, mountain ranges, and traditional stone settlements. The culture of Zagora is based on pastoral roots, a strong local identity, ojkavica singing, guslar traditions, and rich ritual customs. It is an authentic, less touristy area, where traditional forms of life and farming are still visible today. — About us – Balkan Polyphony is a field research project that collects traditional music from the Balkan area.
