Behind the Scenes of the Ancient Padayani Kolam Ritual in Kerala ๐ฎ๐ณ | Vishu Village Traditions
This Vishu, we had the incredible opportunity to witness the behind-the-scenes preparation of an ancient Padayani ritual at our local temple in Kerala, India ๐ฎ๐ณ Padayani is a traditional ritual art form performed in parts of Kerala, involving elaborate Kolams (oversized ceremonial headpieces), rhythmic dance, music, and storytelling passed down through generations. In this video, we spend the day immersed in our local village traditions, watching artisans carefully build and paint the magnificent Padayani Kolams completely by hand using natural materials like arecanut palm, tender coconut leaves, turmeric, and natural red dyes. As the sun sets, the final preparations come together before the powerful nighttime performance begins. Along the way, we also experience the simple moments that make Vishu in Kerala so special, fresh chaya, local snacks, village life, and the incredible sense of community surrounding the celebrations. We feel very grateful to experience and learn more about these traditions each year while living here in Kerala. ๐ Filmed in Pathanamthitta district, Kerala, India Subscribe for more videos about life in Kerala, village traditions, slow living, food, and culture through the eyes of an Australian-Malayali couple. #padayani #vishu #KeralaCulture #LifeInKerala #keralam Audio: Indian India Hindi Song Music Music by Mykola Odnoroh (ikoliks_aj) from Pixabay India Chillout Vibes 396889 Music by Jakob Welik from Pixabay Hi, weโre Jess and Fibin! ๐ฆ๐บโค๏ธ๐ฎ๐ณ Weโre an inter-cultural coupleโFibin is Malayalee, and Jess is Australian.
