The Ilanjimel Vallikkavu Temple is located on Chengannur-Mavelikkara Road in Alappuzha district of Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Bhadrakali. The complex has two sacred kavus or "kavus" - Thekke Kavu (south) and Vadakkke Kavu (north), with the Vadakkke Kavu being the most important. The main deity worshipped here is Goddess Bhadrakali, and her idol faces east. There are special customs governing the worship in the Vadakkke Kavu: Women are not allowed to enter, and men are prohibited from seeing the idol. Only the eastern door of the temple is open for worship, and entry is allowed on Sundays, Tuesdays, Fridays and some other important days. However, the Thekke Kavu is open every day for puja. It is a temple sanctum where many secrets and rare rituals are performed. One of the largest sacred groves in Alappuzha after Mannarasala. Peaceful ambience and well maintained temple!!
