The plan was simple: build a shelter using dry wood, light a fire, and spend the night in nature. But the weather had other plans. As soon as I arrived at Parnassos, I started looking for the right spot. The sun was melting the snow off the trees, making it feel like it was raining, so I had to find a place without many trees, but still protected from the wind and with enough material to build. As time passed, the weather kept changing. The clouds got thicker and the snowfall became heavier and heavier. Within minutes, the whole landscape changed, and that’s when I realized the original plan might not be possible anymore. I had to think fast. And then I remembered a man I had met earlier on the mountain, who had mentioned some old shepherd huts. I continued walking, keeping my eyes open, until I noticed some stones that didn’t look natural. I got closer… and yes. They were the huts. At that point, I was already wet and tired. Finding them felt like pure luck. I went inside one of them, and it looked well maintained. There was cut wood inside, and it was properly sealed. Without wasting time, I changed clothes and lit a fire using the wood that was already there. Slowly, I started preparing the food I had brought with me — souvlaki, just as I had planned from the beginning. I ate, relaxed, and enjoyed the moment, while outside the weather kept getting worse. Night fell, I set up my sleeping bag and sat by the fire. At some point, I heard noises coming from the roof… I assumed it was an animal, but I didn’t see anything. The next morning, I woke up, had breakfast, and for one last time enjoyed the view of Mount Parnassos before heading back.
