On July 23rd 1985, Commodore launched the groundbreaking Amiga personal computer. And it ultimately failed with their bankruptcy in 1994. Written out of history by the victors and those who only see American and Japanese systems as valid of discussion, the American born Amiga found most of its success in Europe. But it had a profound impact that has largely been forgotten, especially its outsized impact on computer graphics and pixel art. In this in depth video, I look at the three fundamental reasons the Amiga lead a creative rebellion - specifically designed hardware for graphics, an intricacy that allowed longevity, and last a working environment that pioneered new ways of working with greater comfort than ever before. This isn't a blind "Amiga fan" video, instead I look at the hardware specifications and limitations and indicate where the Amiga fell short and was quickly surpassed, but through the three key tenets above, it survived and thrived in some areas, games and video production as well offering computer graphics to the masses. The Amiga provided an accessible platform, to digitally express ideas and innovate on, either through productivity, accessible games production and consumption and through the still radical edge of the demo scene pushing the boundaries way beyond anyone's imagination. This is the story of 1985 rebel that shook up computer art. My other videos of relevance: Amiga HAM Mode Explained: • How the Amiga's HAM Mode Worked - 4096 Col...
