a day in the workshop - episode seven || evan kingma guitars
Hey folks! In this week’s episode, you will see me fit the back to the guitar, glue it on, and then take the guitar out of the mould. At a bit over 3 and a half minutes, you will see me feeling the inside of the guitar. This is what my mentor refers to as “the blessing” of the guitar. I don’t really believe in blessing the guitar, but I still do this step for all of my guitars. So much work goes into the top, the back, the sides, and the neck to get it to this stage and so I like to take a moment to quietly reflect on the build thus far. I like to feel all the individual pieces of wood inside and think about the guitar it will soon become and the music it will create. As I am feeling the internals before the box is closed, I breathe and meditate and just enjoy this calm moment before the routing of the bindings and all the other construction that will follow shortly after. Sorry I have not uploaded videos as much lately, I have a student in the workshop at the moment and don’t often have the energy to film after a day of teaching. This series is designed to give you a glimpse of what I do every day. My goal is to make this series quite relaxing and to let you be a fly on the wall so to speak, and to let you watch me just quietly working away. While the videos may not be very informative, please feel free to ask any questions in the comments. Despite its name, the entire video does not necessarily show everything I have done for work that day, only the things I bothered to record. For instance, while the camera is charging, I am still working, or sometimes I just need/want to not worry about the camera so I don’t film some tasks. I hope to have an episode out every week or two just to show you all what’s happening in the shop that given week. If you enjoyed this video, please feel free to like, comment, and subscribe.
