After unexpectedly returning home last week, I decided to stay a little longer with my family. Thankfully, Joen flew over from Madeira to join me, and having him here has brought so much comfort during a difficult time. Today we’re slowing down and spending a quiet summer day together. We begin the morning at the beach with Lara, who bravely decides to practice her swimming skills. Back at my childhood home, we enjoy one of my favorite Danish summer traditions: koldskål with crunchy kammerjunkere. It’s one of those childhood flavors that instantly brings back memories. Later, I take Joen to one of my favorite Danish towns, Køge. With its colorful half-timbered houses, cobbled streets, hidden courtyards and beautiful market square, it has always felt like one of Denmark’s most charming places. Walking through these familiar streets reminds me how comforting it can be to revisit the places that shaped us. During our walk, we also stop by St. Nicolai Church. Just a few days earlier, my grandfather peacefully passed away. Standing there, surrounded by silence, I found myself reflecting on life, love, and the beautiful ways the people we love continue to live on through us. Later, we spoil Lara with homemade dog ice cream, enjoy some ice cream ourselves, stop by the harbor to buy fresh wild-caught fish, and end the day by cooking one of my favorite Danish summer dinners at home. Sometimes the most meaningful days aren’t filled with extraordinary events. They’re filled with familiar places. Simple food. People we love. And quiet moments that remind us how precious life truly is. This video is a gentle reminder to: Slow down whenever you can. Spend time with the people you love. Return to places that feel like home. And treasure the ordinary moments that quietly become lifelong memories.
