Our heart pumps approximately five liters of blood through our body per minute. Four heart valves act as valves responsible for ensuring that the blood flows in the correct direction. If one of these valves no longer functions properly, for example, if it opens too little or leaks, it can be fatal to our most vital organ, either acutely or over a longer period of time.
