On March 18, 1882, Morgan Earp was assassinated, literally shot in the back, while playing a game of billiards at the Campbell and Hatch saloon on Allen Street. This murder was a revenge killing based on October 26th, 1881 Fremont street fight, otherwise now referred to as the "Gunfight at the OK Corral". Wyatt witnessing the murder of his brother Morgan, as well as the crippling of his other brother Virgil, launched him on a vigilante killing spree now referred to as his "Vendetta Ride".
