Research into the Genetics of Unknown Ataxia Without Family History
Ataxia is a rare neurological disease that can have a wide array of genetic origins. While some forms of the disease have been identified, many people with Ataxia do not yet have a diagnosis for their disease. The National Ataxia Foundation is proud to host this webinar on "Unknown Ataxia without a Family History." It was presented by Dr. Brent Fogel on January 25th on how the unknown Ataxias are studied. He gave an overview of the current state of research and drug development for the disease. For more on Unknown Ataxias, check out our previous webinar, “All About Ataxia Without Family History”: • All About Unknown Ataxia Without Family Hi... He specializes in the diagnosis and care of patients with genetic neurological disorders including cerebellar ataxia & ataxia with oculomotor apraxia, spastic paraplegia, leukodystrophies, and many others. Dr. Fogel also runs an active research program to identify rare and novel genetic causes of neurological disease and to understand how best to use genomic information and technologies to efficiently diagnose and to improve care and treatment of patients. About the Series: NAF is producing a series of monthly educational webinars that focus on one type of Ataxia at a time. Each month we will feature a different type. Clinical experts will join us to take a look at the causes and symptoms of the disease, the typical diagnostic journey for those affected, and what to expect for clinical care. Research experts will teach us how the disease is studied and give an overview of the current state of research and drug development.
