style icon Frida Kahlo || sew with me

I recreated Frida Kahlo’s iconic Vogue look—ruffles, flowers, prints, and all. This was truly a labor of love (and a bit of chaos), especially since I was also preparing for my dissertation proposal while making it. I hand-painted the skirt to match the original floral print, painted yards of lace, sewed on yards of ruffles (using my vintage Singer 401A with a ruffler foot!), and made the top completely from scratch. I also made the stencil, stenciled the blouse, and finished it all off with a custom flower crown. I hope I did you justice, Frida. 🖤 A link to Professor Graeme Yorston’s Frida video that goes more in depth about her life:    • Frida Kahlo - A Life of Pain - Biographica...   A link to the website that shows you how to make a huipil: https://www.vam.ac.uk/articles/sew-yo...
