They wrote: a few wretched arrows. They wrote: the natives were frightened. They forgot the trade that came first. Track 04 lands on the Vinland camp and corrects the chronicle. The saga record, written centuries after the events, called the Skrælingar "wretched" and frames the violence as their savagery. The track quotes that framing in the cold-open spoken anaphora — "they wrote: a few wretched arrows / they wrote: the natives were frightened" — and reverses it on the first sung line: "they forgot the trade that came first." Furs, red cloth, milk, a feast, peace bartered. Then a Norse bull breaks free of the brake on the fourth sun, the Skrælingar flee, three weeks of silence pass, and the camp wakes on the third week's night to arrows in the timber wall. The architecture is folk-power-metal galloping menace — 150 BPM, double-kick locked from Chorus 1, palm-muted verses, twin-guitar choruses, Norse bowed lyre cold counter-line under verses, women's chorus carrying the destiny voice. The bridge brings the album's only non-Western melodic instrument: a single low native flute in long sustained notes against a Norse bowed-lyre counter-melody — the song's gesture of musical respect to the Skrælingar as a people with their own music, their own gods, their own valid claim to the land.
