Grandfather killed, was named outlaw. Father killed, was named outlaw. I am the third — and the west is mine. Track 01 opens the album not on Freydís's own story but on the lineage that produced her — three generations of outlaws, two of them men, killing and sailing west. Grandfather Thorvald Asvaldsson, outlawed from Norway for a feud-killing, flees to Iceland with young Erik. Erik the Red, outlawed twice from Iceland, sails further west to colonize Greenland. Freydís is the third generation, the first daughter — and the song lands her name in the cold-open spoken hook: "Grandfather killed, was named outlaw, / Father killed, was named outlaw, / I am the third — and the west is mine." The bridge plants the album's historiographical thesis without naming it: the previous two generations got short saga entries; she will be the longer tale — the one the chroniclers can't agree on. The track ends on three transition-seed fragments — "The third has answered. The ice waits.
