Araya (PPD) defiende retomar diálogo por megarreforma sin Quiroz: “Dinamitó las confianzas”

In an interview with the program "Desde La Redacción" on La Tercera, Senator Pedro Araya of the Party for Democracy (PPD) defended his desire to continue negotiating with the government on the mega-project, despite the breakdown in talks with Finance Minister Jorge Quiroz. After the agreement on the mega-reform between the government and the PPD collapsed on Friday—when the Finance Minister included a reduction in the corporate tax rate to 22% instead of the 23% stipulated in the original bill, causing an impasse that forced him to backtrack—the opposition legislator opened a new window of negotiation for the Presidential Palace. Araya's demand for resuming dialogue is a reduction in the specific tax on fuels, specifically gasoline, a sensitive issue for the government. Not only because March saw a historic price surge due to the war in Iran, but also because of the renewed conflict in that region, which has once again impacted the price of a barrel of oil. Regarding this new opening to negotiations, Araya stated: “What they did clearly undermined the trust one can have with the executive branch.
