LSD, hongos y budismo: la vida radical de Julián Sellarés.
What does it mean to live without betraying yourself, even if it means giving up the life others expect of you? In this episode of Rebels with Purpose, I talk with Julián Sellarés, a 74-year-old man who has always lived outside the conventional. From a young age, he chose art, music, and literature as his way of life, consciously rejecting the social script of “normal life.” Not out of superficial rebellion, but out of a profound search for meaning and truth. At 17, in England, Julián had his first experience with LSD, administered by one of its creators. It wasn't escapism, but clarity: a feeling of having “returned to the nest,” like in ancient Buddhist stories. Since then, his life has become a constant exploration of consciousness and that which is intuited but cannot be fully explained. For decades, he has traveled unconventional paths: psychedelics, expanded states of consciousness, radical decisions, and a freedom that often meant solitude. He chose not to form a traditional family or pursue social success. He chose not to betray himself. Six years ago, during a mushroom experiment, a sign appeared that changed the course of his search and led him to Buddhism, to the lineage of Mingyur Rinpoche, and to teachings he encountered through Sam Harris. There, the search ceased to be external and transformed into practice, silence, and acceptance. Today, Julián lives in a small room on a rooftop in a modest boarding house. His space is surrounded by Buddhist symbolism and stillness. He dedicates his days to meditation and defines happiness simply and radically: “What is… as it is.” This is not a story of instant enlightenment. It is the story of a lifetime dedicated to not betraying himself. A profound conversation about psychedelics, Buddhism, consciousness, freedom, renunciation, acceptance, and the meaning of life beyond conventional success. 🎧 If you're interested in lived spirituality, authentic rebellion, and unvarnished human stories, this episode is for you. 🔔 ABOUT REBELS WITH PURPOSE A podcast of deep conversations with people who dared to step outside the status quo to live with coherence, purpose, and contribution.
